Purpose
The Wharton Future of Finance Initiative champions research, collaboration, and impact at the intersection of finance, technology, policy, and regulation. Rapid technological innovation is transforming finance, creating new opportunities. At the same time, these developments raise important questions about regulation, policy, and financial stability.
The Wharton Future of Finance Initiative, by engaging students, faculty, and industry, is uniquely positioned to explore both the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of finance. The Initiative seeks to ensure that financial innovation contributes to a more resilient financial system. Faculty and researchers examine critical issues using cutting-edge data and analytical tools, helping to inform industry practice and public policy.
Program
The Wharton Future of Finance Initiative is an interdisciplinary research initiative at the Wharton School dedicated to the scholarly research of major topics at the intersection of finance, technology, and policy. The Wharton Future of Finance Initiative Fellows program is designed to mentor students seeking to become leaders under the broad umbrella of policy, regulation, and financial technology.
As WFFI Fellows, students bolster classroom learning with guidance from Wharton faculty and real-world insights from financial institution leaders. The fellowship supports mentored student research in contemporary issues and innovations in finance, as well as offers students an opportunity to network beyond the Initiative.
Fellows will receive mentoring for their projects from Wharton Finance affiliated faculty, invitations to workshop their research with like-minded, passionate peers, opportunities to participate in the Initiative’s work, and training through the FinTech Lecture Series.
Participation
Fellows will be expected to attend at least 75% of the FinTech Lecture Series events during the academic year. About 5-7 lectures are expected to take place. The full schedule will be announced soon. A list of previous speakers can be found here.
In addition, Fellows will have the opportunity to provide suggestions for future topics and speakers for the FinTech Lecture Series.
Fellows will also be asked to produce a research article for the Wharton Future of Finance Initiative’s website, under the guidance of Initiative faculty and researchers.
